The Wesley Foundation at the University of Illinois and Wesley United Methodist Church are searching for our next Director of Advancement. This 20-hour per week position (eligible for benefits) will work with the senior pastor/director, institutional leadership, staff, and volunteers to meet or exceed annual fundraising targets; coordinate advancement strategies; support ongoing major giving efforts as well as special campaigns; and develop new and innovative advancement programs.

Director of Advancement and Donor Relations

 

POSITION TYPE: 1/2-time, Salaried

HOURS: 20 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours will be required.

 

SUMMARYOF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Advancement and Donor Relations herein referred to as Director, will guide the advancement and development efforts of The Wesley Foundation at the University of Illinois and the stewardship efforts of Wesley United Methodist Church. The Director will work with institutional leadership, staff and volunteers to meet or exceed annual fundraising targets; coordinate advancement strategies; support ongoing major giving efforts as well as special campaigns; and develop new and innovative advancement programs.

 

In performing the duties of this position, the Director will work with the Foundation Board of Trustees, the Church Council, and each organization’s officers and committees; and the Director will provide them with reports, advice, and counsel. The Director will work, with other Foundation and Church employees and volunteers on a regular basis.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in successful advancement experience, preferably in the faith-based non-profit sector.

  • Bachelor's degree; Master's degree preferred.

  • Must be diplomatic, honest, highly ethical, and dependable.

  • Demonstrated ability to build trusting partnerships across stakeholders and create impactful donor experiences.

  • Knowledge and/or experience working in major components of advancement, including development, alumni engagement, and stewardship.

  • Knowledge of planned giving fundraising vehicles.

  • Must have strong integrity; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills; excellent oral and written communication skills; and ability to exercise initiative, confidentiality, discretion, and sound independent judgement.

 

DUTIES

  • Annual Fundraising Campaigns:

    • Wesley Foundation Annual Appeal: Oversee, plan, organize, and execute the annual appeal campaign; and ensure tbe effective operation of donor acknowledgment.

    • Wesley Church Annual Stewardship Campaign: In conjunction with Senior Pastor and church leadership, develop theme, process, and materials for the annual church stewardship ca1npaign.

 

  • Endowment Campaign:

    • Develop, implement, and oversee a planned giving program/campaign with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies and charitable gift annuities. While this has traditionally been a focus of the Foundation, there may be those who are interested in this information for making planned gifts to the Church. The Director will consult with potential donors to both institutions.

 

  • On-Going Planned Giving:

    • Based on information learned during the Endowment Can1paign, continue to develop relationships with potential planned giving donors \Vith the end goal of securing planned gift commitments.

 

  • Donor Relations/Growth Planning:

    • Review donor profiles regularly to identify areas in which donors might be encouraged to grow in their giving to Wesley. This may include moving to increased annual giving levels, special gifts, and planned giving opportunities.

    • Develop and strengthen relationships with local churches throughout the Illinois Great Rivers Annual Conference to inform them of the Foundation's campus ministries and to solicit their support of the ministries.

 

  • Communications:

    • ln conjunction with the Director of Communications, develop and implement print and electronic communications necessary for the work of communicating advancement issues to potential donors.

 

  • Special Events:

    • Plan and execute special advancement events (Legacy Circle Desserts, reunions, etc.), including event details and volunteers.

 

  • Donor Recordkeeping:

    • In conjunction with the Office Manager, utilize ACS Realm software to track donor contact information, donor life event information, details of donor interactions, and future donor follow-up activities.

 

SUPERVISION

Reports to the Foundation Director/Church Senior Pastor.
